Sports Premium Funding

The PE and sport premium grant has had a significant positive impact on teaching and staff development at St Lawrence’s CE Primary School. The funding led to a positive impact on increasing all staff’s confidence, knowledge, and skills in teaching PE and sport, as well as increasing teachers’ confidence and competence. This improvement is evidenced by the school’s spending of £9,687 on Continuing Professional Development (CPD). Key areas of investment include £6,825 on external coaches supporting confidence and competence and £2,112 on upskilling staff to deliver swimming lessons. The grant has also been successful in raising the profile of PE and sport across the school to support whole school improvement.

Furthermore, the funding resulted in a positive impact on pupil outcomes, particularly through increasing the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity and sport. The school achieved an increase in pupils’ physical activity levels and an increase in the number of pupils participating in extra-curricular activities. Targeted spending provided or improved opportunities for specific groups, such as supporting participation in extra-curricular opportunities and providing specialist equipment for pupils with SEND or long-term medical conditions. Girls’ access to PE and extra-curricular sport was also increased through specialist focused activities. The school spent £5,142 on internal activities, including £1,560 on school-based extra-curricular opportunities and £2,962 on equipment and resources. Overall, the total expenditure of the £17,220 grant was £17,266, with the aim of ensuring that the improvements made are sustainable.
